Tamara

Tamara buy-now-pay-later, integrated cleanly into your UAE storefront checkout.

What it is

Tamara is a Saudi-headquartered buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) provider, widely used across Saudi Arabia and the UAE, that lets customers pay in instalments or defer payment while the merchant is paid the full amount upfront. It is a Sharia-compliant, interest-free option that Tamara offers shoppers at checkout.

Why we build with it
  • 01Your customers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia already use Tamara and look for it at checkout.
  • 02You get paid the full amount upfront while Tamara carries the repayment and default risk.
  • 03Showing instalment options on the product page, not just at payment, lifts conversion and average order value.
  • 04A proper integration reconciles captures and refunds against Tamara's settlement so finance is not doing manual cleanup.
  • 05Built to work identically in Arabic and English, with correct RTL layout and AED display.

Tamara is a payment option your customers expect to see. As one of the largest buy-now-pay-later providers in the GCC, with deep adoption in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, it lets shoppers split an order into instalments or pay later while you receive the full amount upfront. Tamara takes on the repayment and default risk, so your cash flow is not exposed to whether a customer completes their schedule.

For a UAE store, offering Tamara is less a question of whether and more a question of how well it is wired in. A weak integration shows the option only on the final payment step, breaks on Arabic or RTL layouts, or quietly fails to reconcile captured and refunded orders against Tamara's settlement reports. Karve builds the integration end to end so it behaves correctly across the whole purchase journey, not just the pay button.

How Karve integrates Tamara

We treat Tamara as a first-class part of the checkout, not a plugin bolted on at the end. On a hosted platform like Shopify or Salla, that often means configuring and theming the official app. On a headless or custom storefront, it means working directly against Tamara's API: creating a checkout session server-side, redirecting the shopper to authenticate and pick a plan, then handling the return and confirming the order. We register a webhook endpoint, verify Tamara's signed notification token, and drive the order through its authorise, capture and refund states so your order management and finance records stay in sync.

The detail that makes or breaks the experience is the product-detail widget. Showing the instalment breakdown on the product page, in the cart, and at checkout is what lifts conversion and average order value, so we place Tamara's eligibility and instalment messaging where it does the most work, correctly localised for English and Arabic and laid out for RTL.

What we wire up on a typical build

  • Server-side checkout session creation and the redirect-and-return flow, so order state is driven by your backend rather than the browser.
  • Webhook handling with notification-token verification, mapping Tamara's order events to your order statuses automatically.
  • Capture and refund handling aligned to Tamara's settlement cycle, so partial refunds and cancellations reconcile against the payouts you actually receive.
  • Product-page, cart and checkout instalment widgets, localised for English and Arabic with correct AED display and RTL layout.
  • Tamara offered alongside cards and other wallets in a single, coherent checkout rather than as a separate path.

Whether you run a Shopify storefront or a fully headless build on a modern stack, we make Tamara feel native to your store, settle correctly against your finance reports, and work the same in Arabic as it does in English. If you are weighing BNPL providers for the GCC, we can integrate Tamara on its own or alongside other options and explain the trade-offs for your catalogue and basket sizes.

About Tamara

Can you integrate Tamara into a UAE Shopify or headless store?

Yes. On Shopify we configure and theme Tamara's official app; on a headless or custom storefront we integrate directly against Tamara's API, handling checkout sessions, the redirect flow, webhooks and capture or refund. Both end up offering Tamara cleanly inside your existing checkout.

Does the customer pay extra to use Tamara, and do we get paid upfront?

Tamara is an interest-free, Sharia-compliant option for shoppers, and as the merchant you receive the full order amount upfront. Tamara assumes the customer repayment and default risk, so your cash flow does not depend on whether a customer completes their instalment schedule. We do not set or quote Tamara's merchant fees; those come from your Tamara agreement.

Will Tamara work in Arabic and right-to-left layouts?

Yes. We localise the instalment and eligibility messaging for both English and Arabic and lay out the widgets and checkout for RTL, so the experience is correct for Arabic-speaking customers rather than a mirrored afterthought.

Can you show the Tamara instalment breakdown on product pages, not just at checkout?

Yes, and we recommend it. We place Tamara's instalment widget on the product page and in the cart as well as at checkout, because surfacing the option earlier is what tends to lift conversion and average order value.

Can you integrate Tamara alongside Tabby and card payments?

Yes. We commonly offer Tamara, Tabby and card or wallet payments together in a single checkout, and can advise on which BNPL providers fit your catalogue and basket sizes in the GCC market.
